Pleasantrees FAQ
Do you have an offset program in place?Yes. We know that even though we are trying our best to produce the most environmentally-friendly business holiday cards, they are still made using paper which is coming from trees. To offset the trees that we are using in the creation of our business holiday cards, we have partnered with American Forests® and pledged to plant 3 trees for every order placed. Our goal is to donate 50,000 trees by December 2009. To learn more about American Forests, visit there website at

How recycled are your business holiday cards? All of our business holiday cards and envelopes are printed on paper containing at least 30% post-consumer waste (PCW) content and are at least 50% recycled. In the details of every card you will be able to see how much post-consumer waste content the card contains. We use paper stocks that have either 30%, 80% or 100% PCW.

Isn’t foil bad for the environment?Foil is completely recyclable and we only work with vendors that run clean productions and recycle everything that they can. Instead of offering foil stamping on the inside of our holiday business cards, we are proud to offer our new, eco-friendly alternative – eFoil. It looks better than foil and has an elegant tactile finish that will impress your card recipients. eFoil is a raised ink treatment that is cleaner and has much less waste than traditional foil finishes. What does FSC-certified mean?FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council, an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

What is post-consumer waste (PCW) content? There are 2 types of recycled materials that can be used in paper creation – post-consumer waste and pre-consumer waste.
Post-consumer waste content has been used as its final end product and then recycled by the end user. For example, a magazine was printed, mailed to its recipient, read and then recycled by the recipient.
Pre-consumer waste content is the scrap that was recouped in the paper mill when the paper was being created. This type of recycled content never actually made it to the end user but was recycled nonetheless. For example, when the paper for the magazine was trimmed and cut down, the mill recycled those scraps and that is considered pre-consumer waste.

You say you’re eco-friendly and you’re mailing a catalog – how does that work?We do offer our catalog online as well as a paper catalog. We have done our best to print our catalog on recycled paper that is FSC-certified. We use soy-based inks in our catalog printing process, as well. If you know of a way that we can better our process, we’d love to hear it; we’re always looking for ways to better our business and reduce our environmental impact.
